Subject: Staghorn ferns
Location: Nimbin Rocks, NSW, Australia

Artist Notes I've visited these ferns from time to time since my first visits to Nimbin Rocks in 1996. I'm one of the few people who ever visits them. After a few hours walking to show someone the sights on this part of the property, I detoured to see how the “stags” were doing. We arrived just in time to catch the last sunlight; it was early afternoon but the sun was about to go behind the ridge so I had to race time to make the most of it. This is a familiar story but true, sunsets are special times even at two in the afternoon. This was taken at knee height looking pretty much straight up. This image seems to have the most universal appeal of any in this gallery. Lots of green with enough structure to keep it interesting and a nice bright outline around the space to separate the two layers of green, it works for me. I cleared some weeds and went away but I'll be back to visit this spot again when I can, and yes I will bring a camera.
