Subject: Lotus flower bud

Artist Notes The lotus is the “tall poppy” poppy of the pond.
The leaves can be 600mm (2 ft) across and flowers (as large as dinner plates)
can be a metre (3ft) above the water line. I am asked if this is a composite
photo – it isn't, there are no doctored photos in this gallery. I like
the contrast of the exotic, smooth water loving lotus against the hard, drought
resistant native gum trees. It was difficult to get the bud to stay still enough
on this windy day and having water under me didn't help matters. In the end
I got plenty of good shots. Australia has some lovely native lotus and I hope
to get their red petals in my sights one day.
