Artist Statement
As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by light. Its quiet sense of beauty and solitude calms me. Its rays wrap around my soul and hold me tightly. It is this wonder that I try to capture in my photographs. Whether a sweeping landscape or a canoe caressed by the late afternoon sun, the power of light is both haunting and reflective.
My images are simple, abstract designs of color, form and light. I use color and form to bring forth the richness and spirit of light. When creating an image, I look for the striking yet simple designs created by the way light can illuminate shapes and forms as well as the intricate beauty of light itself. My photos are of ordinary things made extraordinary.
My goal is to inspire people to slow down and see the light. To view things as a reflection of the light, form and color that shapes it. As the conceptual artist Robert Irwin said, "Seeing is forgetting the name of the thing seen". It is at this point, when we can set aside limiting definitions, when creativity can lead to new understandings.
